This help page describes how to create and view albums and photos. For guidelines on content, please visit here. To view or create albums, click on the Photos tab in the menu bar labelled E in the image on the right (click to view). When you select Photos from your own page, there are four options presented in the secondary menu (labelled F). When you select Photos on another member’s page, there are only two options available, ‘Recent Albums’ and ‘Rated Albums’.
Recent Albums
Here you can view all the photos that you have uploaded to Kiribu. The most recently uploaded album is listed first. You can view, edit and delete any of your albums from this page.
If you are viewing another member’s Recent Albums, you can view and rate their albums and photos by clicking on the 5 stars. You can only rate another member’s album or photos, and you can give it a score between 1 and 5 stars where 5 is the highest. You can only rate once, so be careful where you click! Find out more about ratings here.
Rated Albums
When you view an album or a photo, you can rate it. If you have rated an album, it will be listed here. They are ordered by rating, the highest listed first. This makes it easier for you to find previously viewed albums.
If you are viewing another member’s Rated Albums, you can view all the albums they have rated.
Add Photos
Select this tab to add new photos. You must create an album to add photos, but you can have any number of photos in an album. There are a few stages to creating an album and adding photos.
Album Title
Your album must have a title! Enter a title that helps users to quickly understand what sort of photos it contains. Select ‘Set Article Title and Continue’. You can always change the title later.
Album Content
This is where you upload your photos.
Adding Images
We recommend you reduce the dimensions of your photos before uploading, as it will be much quicker. Keep the longest side below 800px for the best results. See below for advice on this. Click ‘Select Files’ to choose images from your computer. Use Control (Ctrl) or Shift (^) to select multiple files. Click ‘Open’ to start uploading your chosen files. Once the upload is complete, you can click ‘Edit Image Details’ to set up the image as you prefer.
- Title – Set the title of the image
- Description – Add a description of the image
- File URL – use this if you want to send someone a link directly to your photo
- Edit Image – edit how the image is displayed. Selecting this brings up more options, e.g. cropping the image or rotating it. The toolbar above the image has 7 icons; Crop, rotate left, rotate right, flip vertically, flip horizontally, undo edit, redo edit
- To scale the image, select ‘Scale Image’ and change one of the dimensions. The other dimension will be adjusted accordingly. Click ‘Scale’ to confirm your selection.
- To crop the image, click on the image and drag to select the area you wish to crop. You can set the aspect ratio of the selection, 1:1 is useful to set the thumbnail. Once you are happy with the selection, click the crop icon on the tool bar.
- Use the other toolbar icons to rotate or flip your image.
- You can undo or redo each change you made using the buttons on the toolbar.
- Select which versions of your image are changed.
- Click ‘Save’ once you are happy with all your edits. You can always restore your image to the original version.
Select ‘Hide Image Details’ to easily pick another image to edit. When you have finished all your edits click ‘Save all changes’ and all the photos will be added to your album.
Album Location
To help other members find your album and photos, select which locations your album covers. You can select multiple locations.
Categorise Your Album
To help other members find your album and photos, select which categories your album covers. You can select multiple categories.
Tag Your Album
If there are other keywords relevant to your album that aren’t covered in the Location and Category lists you can add them here, separated by a space.
Save As Draft
If you aren’t ready to publish your album, you can select ‘Set as draft?’.
Click ‘Save as draft’ to save your album.
Select Image Order
The order the images are displayed within an album can easily be changed after you have finished adding the images, and clicked ‘Save all changes’.
Select the ‘Photo Gallery’ tab to manage your uploaded photos as shown below. Enter the order of your images and select ‘Save all changes’. The image labelled 1 will be the title image for your album.
Edit An Album
To edit an album that you have previously uploaded, select ‘Recent Albums’ and click ‘Edit this album’ for your chosen album. Select the ‘Photo Gallery’ tab to manage your images. You can add, remove and edit your images as described in the Add Photos section above. Remember to save your changes when you are finished.
Draft Albums
You can access any albums you have saved as a draft to edit, delete or publish them under this tab.
Reduce Image Size
Before uploading, reduce your image size to make it quicker. 800px length for the longest side is plenty. Always change a copy of the image, not the original! There are a number of programs you can use to do this, including:
- Download Picasa by Google – this is a good photo management tool, and editing and resizing many images at once is very easy
- Use Microsoft Paint – All computers using Windows have a basic paint program which can resize an individual image, but you do need to calculate the percentage size change
- Probably the quickest to use, and also easiest to run is ‘Resize My Photos’. Click here to download it
- Use an online photo resize tool, like this one
