Ratings

Our rating system is designed to help visitors to Kiribu make informed decisions about the quality of the content and services listed, and to control which information appears higher up the search results. Clearly it is important that when a user searches for information about something, they get the most relevant and most useful results. For businesses, ratings are automatically enabled. A regular member can disable ratings if desired.

What Can Be Rated?

Articles, Albums, Photos and Business Profiles can all be rated. On Kiribu we use a 5 star system. 0 stars is the lowest rating, and 5 stars the highest.

I Do Not Want To Be Rated!

If you have a business profile you cannot disable ratings. Regular members cannot disable ratings at the moment, but this is a feature we will be adding shortly.

We use various factors to determine how valuable a particular contribution is. These are the main factors:

  • How precisely the item matches the search request
  • Ratings of your contributions – how members rate your articles and photo uploads
  • How active you are – how often you log in and update information, how often you add more content
  • How popular you are – the number of followers your profile has and the number of members that have viewed your contributions
  • If you have a business account, your profile rating – how your customers rate your business

If your contributions are scoring low ratings (2/5 and below), it will affect your overall rating badly. This is to prevent members posting lots of poor articles to boost activity and exposure. If you have written a genuine article and have a low rating, try to find out why. Read successful articles for ideas. Maybe contact other members for advice.

Can I Falsely Increase My Rating

Our rating system uses a complex calculation when rating businesses. This helps us make it difficult for someone to falsely increase a rating.

We have a number of systems in place to minimize the effectiveness of falsely increasing a business rating. If we suspect any behaviour of this kind, we can disable relevant accounts, and even ban a member from the site.
