HOW TO Set Up Your Profile And Where To Get Support

When you sign up, your account will be set with the default settings. We encourage you to configure your settings to suit your personal requirements as soon as possible.

When you sign up, you can choose a username for use on Kiribu. You can add or modify your personal details on your profile page including:

Business Use

If you wish to have a business profile on Kiribu to promote your services we recommend that you create a separate business profile as well as your personal profile. You will need to use a different email address for each account.

Status

Let everyone know what you are doing! Update your status whenever you wish. This is an easy way of notifying your followers what you are up to. Instructions for how to update your status are here.

HOW TO Add Content

You may want to add stuff to your profile for personal use, or just to share with your followers. In that case, just add it however you want. If you are hoping to attract other people to view your content, have a read of the following for some hints and tips!

Quality content in the form of articles and photos is what attracts people to view the information on Kiribu. It is also what helps attract people to your profile. We encourage you to write articles and submit photos about things to see and do where you are based or where you have been. We recommend keeping articles to around 500-1000 words or less, as any longer and your reader will start to lose focus. Varied Content

By submitting content you can increase interest in visiting your part of the world, or share tips on places you have visited. You can write about anything of relevance in your area. For example you could write an article about the best beaches or the nicest markets near where you live. Or you could recommend restaurants you have visited serving vegetarian food. Anything really!

Ideas

We recommend you have a look at successful articles on the site to get some ideas. However, try to keep your articles focused on one subject.

Language

You are welcome to add content in your own language. However, English is the most commonly spoken language by internet users and travellers. Make sure your article is grammatically correct by selecting the Spell Check icon (Spell Check Icon), or search for someone to help you using our translator search. Make sure all names are spelt correctly. Use simple language and keep sentences short. The key is that your articles are easy to read and follow, and that your article conveys what you want to say clearly and succinctly. Present your article well; break it up with sub-headings, paragraphs, bullet points, but try not to fill your article with capital letters or excessive punctuation.

Quality

You may choose to have your articles rated by other members. The better your content the higher ratings it will receive, and the better it will feature in the search rankings.

Once you have joined Kiribu and set up a profile, it will feature in any relevant searches done on site. However, there will be other members competing for the same search queries. We rank the search results based upon a combination of factors. There are a number of ways to improve the performance of your profile and contributions in the search listings.

If you already have your own website, a great feature of Kiribu is that it can help you make it more dynamic. Unlike most other travel sites we encourage members to place a link to their own website. We would appreciate a link back to Kiribu, however this is not compulsory. We provide a widget that you can easily attach to your website. Kiribu has a rapidly increasing number of travel service members. They are all rated by our members. In fact you can easily contact other members who have used a service for advice. For example you may be looking to book a tour through Tibet and to Everest. Our categorised search system ensures that you will find relevant links. You can easily identify good services by their rating, and you can easily contact the business itself, or people who have used them for further information. This all helps make it more likely for you to have a good quality travel experience.

Finding Other Travellers

Kiribu is a great place to find other travellers in the area. You may be travelling on your own and looking for people to meet up with, or you may be looking for people to join you on a tour. Kiribu makes it easy to find people near you.

Information By Locals

Much of the information on Kiribu is provided by locals. This ensures you get an insiders perspective of things to see and do, and up to date information. Many locals will happily help you with your travel plans, and give advice on things to do and things to avoid. For example, they could tell you the best time to visit a site, or the maximum you should pay for a taxi fare. Some locals may like to meet you and show you round, to help you make the most of your visit.
